"66K Miles-Single Family Owned"
SOLD to
Gillette, Wyoming
1967 Pontiac GTO Hardtop Coupe:
Originally equipped 335HP 400 Cubic Inch 4bbl V8, His/Hers
Dual Gate Shifter.
"PHS" Pontiac Historical Society documented as a "REAL GTO",
we have verified as matching # original with complete owner
history! Sold new in California to Mom, passed onto
daughter, then Son and now to you!! 66,206 Actual Miles as
it sits in our consignment showroom...
The following is text/history as
"described by the owner" along with our review
located below under known items...
"You are viewing the May
2000 Golden Gate Goats "Car of the Month" (see story
sub-page)! This California Beauty is an original, 1 Family Owned GTO purchased brand new from the Allison Pontiac Dealership in
San Jose, California. I still have the original California
Black/Yellow Plate, though the vehicle is now registered as an
"Historic Auto" in the State of Idaho, my new residence.
My mom originally purchased
the car in 1967. She drove it sparingly until about 1992
when she contracted Multiple Sclerosis and was unable to
drive. At that time the car was pretty much left in her garage
in San Jose, driven infrequently on weekends by my sister to
maintain in running order. Routine servicing was performed
during this time frame, as required.
I took ownership of the GTO
in 1997 with 55,000 miles on the odometer, moving it to my San
Jose Residence. In the 97-98 time frame, I had a significant
restoration completed on the car. The engine was pulled and
necessary work was completed to put it in top running order (it
was ultimately determined, however, that the o-haul/rebuild was
not needed due to the superb condition of the inspected internal
engine components)...
Also, I completely restored
the trunk, engine compartment, engine block, and undercarriage
with fresh paint and re-chromed the front/back bumpers. Finally
the body received a High Gloss refinish in the original white
(Cameo Ivory, the stock competition stripes were purposely left
off). A few non-stock extras were subsequently added to bring
out the cars "Muscle". These included Electronic Ignition w/
Custom Wire Dressings, Rear Adjustable Air Shocks, Flowmaster
Dual Exhaust. Interior Gauges and Radiator enhancements.
However, every attempt has been made to keep the car the same as
the day it came off the assembly line.
Mechanically, the engine,
transmission, brakes & other running gear are in superb
condition. In fact, the car has only been driven 10,000 miles by
myself as a "Sunday Touring Car" since the 97-98 restoration.
The car has 66,000 original miles on it. All of the mechanical
restoration records are available for review.
Cosmetically the car is
superior. The engine, engine compartment and trunk are spotless.
The interior has points of minor wear that are barely visible.
Overall, the wear and tear that exists is minor in nature.
(study the detailed photos) Note in the pictures something is
special about the wheels on this car. What you see are the
ORIGINAL Wheel Covers (hub-caps). These are not only rare but in
near impossible to replace.
Let me close by saying that
this automobile has always been driven and treated with loving
care. It has never been "Beat" in any manner (certainly not by
Mom). In the time I have had it, it's never exceeded 85 miles
per hour (I'm a Cruiser - Not a Bruiser!) This Sale is motivated
by my age (in my 60's) and frankly I have moved towards
different interests. Though I always intended to keep "My Mom's
Car", I hate to see it languish away under a cover in my cramped
garage. Such a fine automobile deserves to be driven and
shown off by someone who love it as much as my Mom and I did....
SO, GO AHEAD and Make Me an Offer I can't Refuse!..."
Honest
Ownership Disclosure of Known Defects
* Radio Not Original, current
in dash radio works as tape player only, radio antenna not
operational (capped-off)
* Rear panel passenger side
hit during 1968 "MINOR" Fender Bender. It was hammered out and
repaired with filler (no panel replacement). One approx. 4 1/2
stress crack (barely visible) remains on the top side of the
panel area (not visible from side). NO major structural damage
was done and frame Not affected. (PS the crack is inert and had
not changed in years)
* Front plastic grill cowling
has slight cracks and has been repaired (repair areas common and
only slightly visible)
* Back seat package tray and
ceiling material shows some patina wear @ corners. Also. side
window rubber strip molding repaired with black tape (drivers
side). Window gaskets worn in places.
* Some stress cracks in
interior plastic trim (door jamb passenger side)
* Normal, Age-Related engine
gaskets allow some minor oil seepage and post drive will leave a
few drops, such that a drip pan is a good idea. We believe some
leakage is caused by a faulty and inexpensive fuel pump
replacement (vent diaphragm leaking).
* Small seat belt dings exist
on chrome shift console and non-stock screws have been used to
retain wood grain.
*Interior dome light inop and
needs bulb.
In closing, how's that for
history and No Bull disclosure? They do not come more honest
than this! Rock Solid originals with character like this are
super hard to find and make the prefect addition to any size
collection!
